Derby County’s Will Hughes and Jonathan Mitchell are to attend a 28-man England Under 21 training camp next week.

Hughes and Mitchell have been named on the UEFA 2017 Under 21 Championships ‘Long List’ which will be eventually cut down to a final squad in early June ahead of the tournament in Poland.

The Young Lions have already had two shorter training camps in the last two weeks to cater for players in the group from the Championship, including Hughes and Mitchell, whose season finished a fortnight earlier than those in the Premier League.

The latest get-together will give Under 21s boss Aidy Boothroyd a chance to fully assess his options before naming his final 23-man squad for the trip to Poland, with that group re-convening again at St. George’s Park between 7-10 June.

Boothroyd’s side will face Sweden, Slovakia and host nation Poland during the tournament.

Academy graduate Hughes, 22, made 42 appearances in all competitions for Derby during the 2016/17 season while goalkeeper Mitchell, also 22, acted as Scott Carson’s understudy over the course of the campaign and made two first-team appearances.

Hughes has been a regular at Under 21 level after making his international bow for them in 2012 while Mitchell made his England U21 bow against France earlier this season.
