Richard Keogh and Cyrus Christie both started as Republic of Ireland fell to a 3-1 defeat to Mexico in New Jersey on Thursday evening.

In a match which saw Martin O’Neill trial a new-look 3-5-2 formation, Keogh, the Derby captain, played the entire match, whilst Christie played 73 minutes at the MetLife Stadium, before being replaced by Alan Browne.

Alex Pearce, the defender, was an unused substitute in the friendly fixture.

Mexico established a three-goal lead in the game, with goals coming from Jesus Manuel Corona, Raul Jimenez and Carlos Vela, but Republic of Ireland did pull one back with 13 minutes through Stephen Gleeson.
