Derby County’s Under-23s got their pre-season campaign underway on Friday afternoon with a friendly fixture at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Darren Wassall’s side, gearing up for their second season in Premier League 2 – Division 1, ran out 3-2 winners at the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby.

Strikes from Timi Max Elsnik and Kellan Gordon, in addition to an own goal from a Wednesday defender, saw the Rams come out on top.

The game saw striker Offrande Zanzala return to match action after missing all of last season with a long-term knee injury.

Next up for the Under-23s as part of their preparation for the 2017/18 campaign is a meeting with Chivas USA Academy at the Training Centre on Saturday 22nd July (12pm kick-off).
