Derby County striker Chris Martin came off the bench as Scotland recorded a comfortable 3-0 win away to Lithuania on Friday evening.

The win means Scotland remain in with a shout of reaching the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia next summer as they are now third in qualifying Group F with three games left to play.

Gordon Strachan’s men cruised to victory in Vilnius thanks to goals from Stuart Armstrong, Andrew Robertson and James McArthur.

Martin was introduced into the action after 79 minutes to replace Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths up front and could have found the net in added time, but saw a powerful low strike saved.

Fellow Ram Ikechi Anya was also an unused substitute.

Scotland face Malta at home on Monday (4th September) and another victory – with leaders England facing second-placed Slovakia going head-to-head at Wembley – means they have a chance to take advantage of dropped points from at least one of the sides above them.
