Three Derby County stars are set to be involved as Wales and the Republic of Ireland play their penultimate 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday.

Tom Lawrence, Joe Ledley and Richard Keogh are away on international duty as their respective nations fight for the single play-off spot in Group D.

Serbia have a four-point lead and are in pole position to take the automatic qualification place in the group, so it’s now down to Wales and Ireland to fight it out for a chance to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Martin O’Neill’s side are just one point behind the Dragons going into their final two games and they have the chance to set up a grandstand finale at the Cardiff City Stadium on the 9th October, but only if they can avoid defeat at home to Moldova on Friday.

Wales still have faint hope of qualifying automatically but their record so far has let them down – with five draws in their opening eight games.

Chris Coleman’s team know that they could secure at least a play-off place with a win away at Georgia, but only if Ireland are beaten at the Aviva Stadium.

Lawrence has started both of Wales’ last two qualifiers – the wins against Austria and Moldova – and will be looking to make three consecutive international starts for the first time, whilst an appearance for Ledley would see him go one cap behind Dean Saunders as Wales’ fifth most capped player of all-time.

Keogh, meanwhile, will be looking to make his first consecutive start since the goalless draw in Dublin against Wales in March.
