Whilst circumstances currently mean there’s no live football to enjoy, dcfc.co.uk is delving into the archives to feature a photograph from Derby County’s illustrious history.

Every day for the foreseeable future, we’ll provide you an image each day for supporters to enjoy and reminisce.

Derby County Lift The Division Two Trophy

Dave Mackay is pictured here lifting the Division Two trophy from the Director’s Box at the Baseball Ground after the final game of the 1968/69 season.

The Rams had already claimed the title and did a lap of honour prior to a 5-0 thrashing of Bristol City.

Brian Clough and Peter Taylor’s side had endured a shaky start to the season, failing to win any of their opening five matches.

However, the addition of Willie Carlin adding to fellow new recruit Dave Mackay soon saw a turnaround.

Derby only lost three more matches the rest of the season and set a club record by winning their final nine games to gain promotion to the First Division as champions of the second tier.

They topped off a sensational season with an Alan Durban first half hat-trick and second half goals from Alan Hinton and Kevin Hector to defeat their opponents.
