Striker Kitson In Action For Derby During The 1992/93 Season

Pictured here is former Derby County striker Paul Kitson in action for the club on the opening day of the 1992/93 season at Peterborough United.

Kitson was a key player throughout his time with Derby after signing from Leicester City towards the end of the 1991/92 campaign.

He joined for a then club record £1.3 million, with Phil Gee and Ian Ormondroyd also moving to Filbert Street, although ten days later Tommy Johnson became the club’s record signing after arriving from Notts County for £1.375 million.

After netting four times in 12 appearances following his mid-season move across the East Midlands, Kitson kicked on during the 1992/93 season and hit 24 goals in all competitions under Arthur Cox.

He bagged another 14 in the following campaign as Roy McFarland took charge and he eventually left Derby to join Newcastle United early in the 1994/95 season, after scoring 49 times in 131 appearances in all competitions.

Kitson went on to play for West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Brighton & Hove Albion, Rushden & Diamonds and Aldershot Town before announcing his retirement.
