Yates Celebrates Scoring On Home Debut Against Bolton Wanderers
Former Derby County defender Dean Yates is pictured here showing his delight at scoring on his home debut for the club against Bolton Wanderers in February 1995.
Derby ran out 2-1 winners as they recovered from going behind inside the opening minute against the Trotters after Jason McAteer scored from close range.
Yates, however, equalised with around ten minutes to go as he slotted home from close range from Paul Simpson’s pass to net his first goal in four years.
Lee Mills went on to get the winner late on with a stunning long-range strike on his debut to hand Derby all three points.
Yates had joined Derby from Notts County in early 1995 for a fee of £350,000 following ten years at Meadow Lane, where he made well over 300 appearances, although his final years with the Magpies were hampered by a knee injury.
The centre-back was a vital player under Jim Smith as Derby gained automatic promotion to the Premiership in 1995/96 season and he racked up top-flight appearances during the 1996/97 and 1997/98 campaigns, before joining Watford as a free agent in the summer of 1998.
Yates left Derby having made 74 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times.
