Whilst circumstances currently mean there’s no live football to enjoy, dcfc.co.uk is delving into the archives to feature a photograph from Derby County’s illustrious history.

Every day for the foreseeable future, we’ll provide you an image for supporters to enjoy and reminisce.

Eranio Joins Derby From AC Milan In The Summer Of 1997

Pictured here is Stefano Eranio posing for the cameras with a Derby County shirt for the first time after joining the club in the summer of 1997.

He pictured at the Baseball Ground after putting pen-to-paper, although he never played at Derby’s former home as the club moved to Pride Park Stadium ahead of the start of the 1997/98 campaign.

The Italian midfield maestro, who is now 53, made 108 appearances for the club between 1997 and 2001 after signing from Serie A giants AC Milan.

He was a popular figure with supporters and secured his place in history by scoring the first official goal at Pride Park Stadium in August 1997, in a 1-0 win over Barnsley.

In all he scored 10 goals in a Derby shirt before returning to Italy to play out the latter years of his career before starting his coaching career at AC Milan in their youth set-up.
