Ormondroyd Celebrates Scoring As Derby Edge Past Burnley In FA Cup Clash

Pictured here is former Derby County striker Ian Ormondroyd celebrating his goal in the Rams’ 2-0 FA Cup Third Round replay victory over Burnley at the Baseball Ground in January 1992.

The two sides had played out a 2-2 draw at Turf Moor earlier in the month, with Martyn Chalk and Andy Comyn scoring for Arthur Cox’s side, meaning a replay was required to decide the winner of the tie.

Paul Williams’ free-kick put Derby ahead in the second half, before Ormondroyd latched onto some poor defending by the visitors to slot home into an empty net and round off the scoring.

Derby faced Aston Villa on home turf in the Fourth Round but were beaten 4-3 by Aston Villa at the Baseball Ground, with Phil Gee (x2) and Williams on target.

Giant striker Ormondoyd, who began his professional career at Bradford City after impressing at non-league side Thackley, had a brief spell with the Rams during the 1991/92 season.

He joined from Aston Villa in September 1991 and made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight times, before departing for Leicester City in March 1992, alongside fellow striker Phil Gee, as part of the deal which saw Paul Kitson move to Derby.
