Derby County supporters played their part as over 450,000 fans attended EFL matches on Boxing Day and 27th
December, the highest aggregate attendance for fixtures on those dates in five
years.
A total of 457,220 supporters went through the gates in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two, the most since the 504,560 aggregate for the 2016/17 Boxing Day round of games. *
The 2022 figures include 260,470 fans attending Championship matches, with 120,859 at League One games and 75,891 watching League Two fixtures.
Sunderland’s gate of 43,940 for the visit of Blackburn Rovers in the Championship was the highest attendance across all three divisions and was the highest in the second tier since 7th May 2017, when 52,276 watched Newcastle United hosting Barnsley.
Ipswich Town attracted the largest crowd in League One, with 28,072 at Portman Road to watch the visit of Oxford United, while the 25,428 for Derby's trip to Bolton Wanderers, with over 5,000 away supporters making the trip from Derbyshire, was the highest attendance at the University of Bolton Stadium for over 10 years.
In League Two, Swindon Town attracted the highest crowd with 10,240 watching their game with Walsall.
