Derby County flew out to Spain on Sunday for the beginning of their week-long Training Camp.

It will be a week full of intense training in the heat, alongside other activities, as preparations for the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One campaign ramp up.

Head Coach Paul Warne caught up with RamsTV on what was a busy first day of work on Monday to give an update on proceedings.

On the first day in Spain...

We had the players out for a run this morning at 7:15am up and down some hills and then we had a good session in the swimming pool.

We've had our first coached football session this afternoon and had a team meeting before we came out about how we press, what we expect and the 'non negotiables' to play for us this season. We have to be the best team out of possession, in possession, on set-pieces and stuff like that.

If there's vocals on the video clips that are going out you'll hear us screaming at the players, not to make it like prison but to get the best out of them.

On what will be involved over the week...

The difference being out here is that we're allowed to do loads of different things. We're allowed to spend more time with the players, which is essential.

The players will have to do a speech about something relevant to them and all the staff will do the same as well. We'll divvy it up over the course of the week so they get to know each other better. That's the biggest part of a training camp.

The training camp, for me, is getting our fundamentals in; what we stand for, how we behave with the badge on our chest. It's all those things that matter.

On managing the workload...

There's no excuses but we do have a common sense culture. It was Sonny Bradley's first day in so he didn't do the same as others. It's just about managing as you see fit with everyone.

It's about trying to bring all the players home fit on Sunday. We're not trying to break people, we're just trying to push them and push them to their maximum. I was beyond buzzing with how hard they trained today.

On building relationships with players and staff...

By the time we get back the lads will understand the importance of the badge, that's essential to me. You can get that across easier at a training camp than you can at Moor Farm or any other training ground at home. You eat together, train together and swim in the pool together.

We're trying to encourage them to be amazing and be the best at everything and to do that, they see the staff and everyone doing everything for them. We care about them, I sincerely care about them.

We'll try and tick as many boxes as the week goes on.
