Derby County Women were held to a 2-2 draw against Boldmere St Michaels at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The Mikes looked a completely different side to the one that lost 6-1 to the Ewe Rams back in September at the Don Amott Arena as they fought back to claim a draw.

Keira Barry’s headed double put Derby ahead after Pip Wilson had scored a screamer midway through the first half for the hosts, but an early second-half goal by Wilson meant both sides had to settle for a point.

The hosts started the game lively with a chance just three minutes into the game which required Hannah Ward to be aware to block an early effort on goal.

Former Ewe Rams player Jade Formaston almost scored against her former club as she tried her luck from a long range free-kick which clattered against the crossbar.

Boldmere did eventually open the scoring in the 20th minute through an outrageous effort from Pip Wilson.

The Mikes captain picked the ball up in midfield before unleashing a precise strike from around 25 yards past the outstretched Imogen Maguire.

Barry thought she had equalised for Derby in the 25th minute after she confidently took the ball around Chloe Quinn before rolling the ball into the empty net, only to be denied by the referee for a handball in the build-up.

However, Barry did get her goal four minutes later as she converted a header following a pinpoint cross that was whipped into the penalty area.

Barry scored her second of the game with another header to give Derby the lead in the 41st minute.

A corner was put into a dangerous area, which was met by the head of Emelia Wilson whose attempt collided with the crossbar. However, Barry was on hand to nod home the rebound.

Boldmere pulled level in the 54th minute as Wilson also claimed her second of the game despite some confusion over the scorer.

She hit a shot against the inside of the right post which looked to have marginally crossed the line, with Trina Greave’s lurking in the six-yard box to tap the ball into the net to ensure the goal was given.

Barry had chance to complete her hat-trick in the 74th minute as she darted through the Boldmere defence before rounding Quinn, but she fired wide of the empty net from a narrow angle.

Despite both sides late efforts, the game finished level to keep Sam Griffiths’ side in fifth place, one point ahead of Stoke City Women.

Derby County Women will face Burnley on Sunday 4th December (2pm kick-off) at the Don Amott Arena in their last game of 2022.
