Cyrus Christie played the full 90 minutes as Republic of Ireland recovered from a goal down to earn a crucial 1-1 draw with Austria at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday.


The 24-year-old made his fourth successive start on the international stage, collecting his 11th cap in the process, as the Green Army retained their unbeaten start to their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, thanks to a late goal from Jon Walters.

Derby County centre back pair, Richard Keogh and Alex Pearce, were unused substitutes in Dublin.

The meeting with Austria was the last of the three fixtures Republic of Ireland had pencilled in over this summer, after facing Mexico and Uruguay, and they now do not return to action until the beginning of September when they resume their World Cup qualifying campaign with games against Georgia and Serbia.

The Rams do still have two players out on the international stage in the coming weeks.

Will Hughes and Jonathan Mitchell were both named in the England-Under 21s squad for this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship Finals in Poland.

The Three Lions play their first game this coming Friday – opening the tournament against reigning champions Sweden.
