Whilst Derby County have got themselves an experienced defender in Curtis Davies, they have also got themselves another voice as well.

It’s quite evident that the 32-year-old, who joined Derby from Hull City for an undisclosed fee earlier this month, is someone that relishes responsibility.

Manager Gary Rowett, himself, described Davies as a ‘proven leader’ in an interview with RamsTV and the centre-back has shown that quality wherever he has been during his playing career to date.

It started at Luton Town where he made his name as a youngster, before going on to play for the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Hull City.

During his career, he has also worn the captain’s armband on several occasions and joins a Derby squad which contains several players to do have done the same.

Richard Keogh has been Derby’s skipper for the majority of his five years at Pride Park Stadium, while the likes of Chris Baird, Alex Pearce, Bradley Johnson, Scott Carson, Jason Shackell, Craig Bryson, Chris Martin and Jacob Butterfield have worn the armband at some stage during their careers.

Davies clearly wants to bring his experience and qualities to the table with the Rams and enjoy a positive future.

“I relish leadership and it’s the way I have always been since I was a kid,” Davies told RamsTV.

“I always had the belief when I was a kid that if I’m in the team, I have a voice and that’s what I have done ever since.

“I like to do my bit and talk because not only does it help the team but it helps me.

“I try to be organised on and off the pitch and I try to help people out and that’s just the way I am as a person; I do it in my normal life as well.

“I’ve always tried to be a leader on and off the pitch. I feel I have a lot of experience in me and I am looking forward to helping Derby County on the pitch to try and push forward.

"If I can use my experience in any way, I'll be more than happy."

Davies' current record in club football has seen him make 464 appearances and score 26 goals
