A trio of Derby County defenders could feature for Republic of Ireland this evening as they step up their preparations for next week’s significant FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifying clash with Austria.

Richard Keogh, Cyrus Christie and Alex Pearce are all pushing for starts in the Green Army’s friendly meeting with Uruguay at the Aviva Stadium, kick-off: 6pm.

The former two, Keogh and Christie, both started for Martin O’Neill’s men in their recent clash with Mexico in New Jersey as a much-changed Republic of Ireland fell to a 3-1 defeat at the MetLife Stadium on Thursday.

Pearce was an unused substitute on the night.

Tonight will see Keogh, Christie, Pearce and co come up against a side that, like them, are well on track to secure a place at the World Cup Finals in Russia next summer.

With four games remaining in the South American qualifying group, Uruguay, the two-time world champions, are third in a 10-team group – the top four of which secure automatic qualification.

Find out how Derby’s three players fare by heading to dcfc.co.uk later this evening.
