Derby County’s Tom Lawrence played for 60 minutes as Wales recorded another vital victory on Tuesday night as they continue to push for a place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Wales were 2-0 winners in Moldova to move to ahead of the Republic of Ireland in second spot in qualifying Group D with two games left to play.

Summer signing Lawrence was named in the starting line-up for the second game in a row by Chris Coleman, after starting last weekend’s win at home to Austria, and produced a lively display on the left wing.

The 23-year-old was replaced by Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn on the hour mark and, with time running out, the substitute crossed for West Bromwich Albion’s Hal-Robson Kanu to head home the opener - before Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey put the game to bed in added time with a deflected strike.

Wales’ final group games are away to Georgia and at home to the Republic of Ireland in October.

Meanwhile Rams skipper Richard Keogh was an unused substitute as Ireland lost 1-0 at home to Group D leaders Serbia.

Aleksandar Kolarov, formerly of Manchester City, scored the only goal at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and the visitors had to see the game out with ten men after Nikola Maksimović saw red with just over 20 minutes to go.

The Republic of Ireland’s final two qualifiers are at home to Moldova and away to Wales in October.
