Derby County’s Chris Martin and Ikechi Anya will be aiming to pick up where they left off as they go into Scotland’s vital 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Slovenia later today.

The pair, both coming off the bench, combined to force a crucial late winner in their 1-0 success against Slovakia on Thursday as Anya’s cross was turned into his own net by Martin Skrtel, who was under pressure from the Ram’s number nine.

Gordon Strachan’s side now go into their final qualifier knowing that another win should secure their place in the play-off round.

If they draw, Slovakia could overtake them with a win at home against Malta due to their superior goal difference.

Martin made a huge impact after coming off the bench at Hampden Park on Thursday - hitting the bar before he played a key role in the only goal - and the magnitude of Sunday’s game isn’t lost on the striker.

He told the media: "It’ll probably be the biggest game I’ve played for Scotland.

"There is a lot riding on it so it’s a big one for us."

A win will keep the World Cup dream alive for Scotland, who are hoping to reach the finals for the first time since 1998, with both Derby stars looking to appear at their first international tournament.
