Manager Gary Rowett has provided a transfer update ahead of the closure of the January window on Wednesday evening.

Forward Johnny Russell, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has indicated his desire to move to America to play in the MLS.

The 27-year-old has rejected offers of new terms with the Rams.

With MLS clubs reporting back for pre-season training ahead of their new season starting in March, Russell has been allowed to discuss personal terms with an interested club after an offer was placed for his services.

Rowett confirmed the news at his pre-match press conference earlier today ahead of Tuesday’s Sky Bet Championship game at Millwall.

Rowett also revealed that striker Chris Martin has been subject of offers from other clubs, while there has also been interest from two Championship clubs for wideman Ikechi Anya.

There has also been significant interest to take youngsters Jamie Hanson and Mason Bennett on loan.

Rowett said: “We will review all of the interest in our players closely over the next two days.

“Our priority is, of course, to ensure we have a united and motivated squad for the final 18 games of the season.”

Rowett has also not ruled out adding to his squad before the deadline.

The Derby boss bolstered his attacking options with the signing of Cameron Jerome from Norwich City earlier this month.

He said: We are working hard to see if we can maybe get a player in. If we can do that, fantastic. If we can’t, I am not overly worried about that.

“We’re trying to get one or two things done but if we don’t, that’s just the nature of the business. We’ll monitor the situation as it unfolds.”
