Derby County’s Johnny Russell is set to join MLS side Sporting Kansas City.

The 27-year-old will complete the formalities of the transfer to bring to an end his four-and-a-half-year stay at Pride Park Stadium.

He is set to join Kansas in an undisclosed deal ahead of the start of their 2018 season in March.

The forward, who was due to be out of contract at the end of the 2017/18 season, had turned down Derby’s offers of new terms and stated his desire to move to America.

Russell joined the Rams from Scottish side Dundee United in June 2013 and leaves after making 203 appearances, including 25 in the current campaign.

He scored 34 goals in a Derby shirt; including a stunning long-range strike in the historic 5-0 victory over local rivals Nottingham Forest during the 2013/14 campaign.

He also earned international honours with Scotland during his time with Derby, making his debut against England in 2014.

Derby County would like to wish Johnny every success in his future career and thank him for his efforts.
