Frank Lampard has confirmed that Max Lowe is set to return to Derby County following the conclusion of his loan spell at Aberdeen.

The 21-year-old left-back joined the Scottish Premiership side on loan until January 2019 back in August to gain further first-team experience.

Lowe, a graduate of the Rams’ Academy, has been in fine form north of the border for Derek McInnes’ side and Derby have monitored his progress closely.

Prior to moving to Aberdeen, where he has made 19 appearances to date, Lowe signed a new deal with the Rams until the summer of 2021.

He featured for Derby in the early stages of the current season, making three appearances off the back of an impressive pre-season campaign.

Lowe’s return at the start of next month will enhance Lampard’s options at left-back.

Craig Forsyth is sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury and Marcus Olsson still working his way back to full fitness, leaving Scott Malone as the only recognised left-back to call upon.

Lampard, speaking after today’s home game against Bristol City, said: "Max is going to come back.

"It was part of Max's progress and development to go up to Aberdeen and play games and that has been massive for him to get regular football.

"He has done well up there and I have been in contact with Max and Aberdeen's manager throughout the loan.

"He will be back with us once his loan ends and he is another good young player to add to the squad."

Lowe has made 15 first-team appearances for the Rams since making his professional debut early in the 2016/17 campaign and spent the second half of last season on loan at Sky Bet League 1 side Shrewsbury Town.
