Derby County’s Krystian Bielik is set for spell out of action after sustaining a significant knee injury earlier this week.

The 22-year-old was injured whilst in action for Derby’s Under-23s against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

The midfielder, who can also play in central defence, joined Derby in August from Premier League side Arsenal and has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season.

Derby boss Phillip Cocu told RamsTV this afternoon: “It doesn’t look good for Krystian; it is a severe knee injury and that’s disappointing news.

“He will not be involved for the rest of the season. For him personally it is a huge setback and mentally it is hard on him, but it’s also not good news for the team.

“Krystian is a young player who came in here at the start of the season and was doing everything to get settled in and to help the team.”

He added: “An injury never comes in a good moment, of course, but like many occasions if we have an injury it is pretty serious.

“It is hard on Krystian at the moment, but he is mentally strong and we will support him as much as we can.”

Bielik’s impressive form following his move to Pride Park Stadium also saw him win his first international caps for Poland earlier in the season and, as a result, he will miss out on their 2020 European Championships campaign in the summer.
