Francis Lee Gets On The Ball For Derby County At The Baseball Ground
Pictured here is Francis Lee during his playing days at Derby County in the mid-1970s.
Lee, who is now 75, joined Derby from Manchester City in August 1974 under Dave Mackay for a fee of £100,000.
He proved to be an inspired signing, arriving at the age of 30, as Mackay’s side claimed the First Division title at the end of the 1974/75 season.
The forward scored 12 times in 34 appearances during the title-winning campaign, including a goal on his home debut in a 1-1 draw against Coventry City and a 1-0 home win over Wolves as Derby closed in on the title late in the season.
Lee spent two seasons with the Rams, also claiming a winner’s medal in the 1975 Charity Shield, before leaving the club at the end of the 1975/76 campaign.
His time with Derby saw him make 83 appearances in all competitions and score 30 goals.
Lee, who was capped 27 times by England, retired after leaving the Rams and remains a popular figure amongst supporters for his contribution during a successful period in the club’s history.
