Derby Complete Ravanelli Signing

Italian international striker Fabrizio Ravanelli is pictured here posing for the cameras after signing for Derby County in August 2001.

Ravanelli, who made his name at Reggiana and Juventus in the early 1990s, was signed at the age of 32 on a free transfer in the lead-up to the 2001/02 Premier League season after leaving Lazio.

The Italian returned to England for his second taste of the Premier League after spell at Middlesbrough in 1996/97, but his 31 goals that season could not stop them from being relegated.

He left England in September 1997 when he agreed to join Olympique Marseille in France prior to linking up with Lazio.

Ravanelli scored on his Derby debut in a 2-1 home win over Blackburn Rovers on 18th August 2001 and finished as the club’s top goalscorer with 11 goals in a season which saw the Rams relegated.

He scored five times in the following season in Division One prior to his departure.
