Derby County’s Louie Watson and Festy Ebosele both featured for Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 side on Saturday afternoon.

Watson and Ebosele came off the bench as Ireland were beaten 1-0 by Denmark in a friendly Spain.

The only goal of the match was scored by Emil Frederiksen just after the half hour mark and despite pushing for a leveller, Ireland could not get back on level terms.

Right-back Ebosele, 18, came off the bench at half-time to claim his second cap at Under-21 level after making a handful of substitute outings for the Rams towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Watson, who made nine first-team appearances in the 2020/21 season under Wayne Rooney, was introduced into the action midway through the second half to record his fourth Under-21 cap.

The game was Ireland’s third and final friendly match over the course of a busy week in Marbella after last Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Switzerland and Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Australia.

Watson started against Switzerland and Australia, while Ebosele was named in the starting line-up against Switzerland but was an unused substitute against Australia.
