Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne was delighted to round 2022 off with three points as the Rams beat Cambridge United 1-0 on Friday evening in Sky Bet League One.

A Lewis Dobbin header midway through the second-half cemented the victory and made it 14 unbeaten in all competitions for the Rams going into 2023.

Speaking to RamsTV after the final whistle, the Head Coach reflected on the performance and looked ahead to the quick turnaround with Accrington Stanley heading to Pride Park Stadium on Monday afternoon.

On the performance...

I'm happy with the result and the performance really. If you're going to be successful you have to have 1-0 wins, and you have to ride the storm. No team is going to come here and lay down.

I was pleased with the lads; I just wish we'd have got a second goal and it could have been a bit more comfortable.

In the second-half our play was really good and in the first-half I just thought our play was a bit too slow.

On Lewis Dobbin's goal...

He's a popular member of the team. The lads are buzzing for him. He's still a really young man and you forget what it's like when you're a teenager. You're playing in front of around 28,000 people you want to do well every time you get the ball.

He trains really hard and it was a good goal. It was a good move and I think we cut them open a few times as well as that.

On the reaction to the goal...

Lewis is just a really nice guy and the dressing room is really tight, the staff are really close and if you're going to be successful it takes everybody that works at this football club - including all the fans that turn up.

On Accrington Stanley on Monday...

There is not much time to prepare for it but it will be a similar; a big ask.

It will be a tough game, it always is when we play them so we will have to be at our glorious best. I made a couple of changes tonight hoping it would sharpen it up and we will probably have to do it again as the games are thick and fast.

Hopefully we can get a positive result and it will set us up nicely for the turn of the year.
