Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne was left frustrated that the side were unable to create more with the amount of the ball they had in their 2-0 defeat to Peterborough United.

The Rams had plenty of possession against the Posh, especially in the first half, but were unable to create any real gilt-edged chances on the day and the hosts struck twice in the second half to claim all three points.

Speaking to RamsTV after the Sky Bet League One game, Warne gave his verdict on the defeat.

On the performance...

I thought in the first half we were excellent without creating too many gilt-edged chances and away from home if you have that much of the ball it always comes down to chances and goals and we didn't do enough to win.

In the second half they came at us and we didn't defend well enough when they changed their system. They got two, it could have got three or four in fairness. That said Tom Barkhuizen could have scored, Harvey White had a good effort and he had a penalty shout.

Our second half performance wasn't bad but in the moments they were just better.

On not taking chances...

It's not just about keeping the ball. Every time you have the ball there should be a purpose to your play. Box-to-box today our play was really good, we just didn't have enough cutting edge in the final third. The pitch didn't help either team but I think in these conditions you've just got to let your peg go.

The performance level was significantly better than last week against Fleetwood so I'm proud on that but our final-third play needs work. We get into good positions and we overhit crosses.

We changed the system in the second half which made us open but we still have to be better in that final third.

On staying level headed...

I know what football is like after the result so nobody will keep their head right now, but come Sunday and Monday you start to get excited for the Ipswich game. We've got to try and get one of those two play-off spots and if we come up short we come up short, we will just have to rebuild and go again next year. We shouldn't come up short, I think we've got enough in the building but when we have the ball we just have to take a few more risks. We are just missing something and I can't honestly put my finger on it or that I would like to share.

On Ipswich Town next week...

It will be a big crowd at Pride Park, a big game against a really good team. I've watched their last few games so we are well aware of what they bring and we will have to be at our very best.

Against very good teams you have to create chances and you have to take them. Peterborough scored with their first chance today and unfortunately we didn’t with ours.

On another day we may have come away with something, we may have got a draw. It's all ifs, buts and maybes but if we'd have won the game we'd have come away thinking 'amazing' and everything else you forget.

The lads did everything they could but unfortunately we just didn't have enough quality to create and score today.

On the supporters...

I was ready to take absolute abuse when I applauded the fans after but I didn't hear any. They are more than entitled to do that because I'm in charge of a team that hasn't won.

We came here prepared to win, we did everything we could to win but we came up short again.

For all the fans that kindly clapped me back, I will sincerely say thank you.
