Derby County’s first team players returned for pre-season training on Thursday morning to begin preparations for the upcoming 2023/24 Sky Bet League One season.

Head Coach Paul Warne and his coaching staff will put the Rams’ squad through their paces in the next few weeks to gear up for the season ahead.

The 2023/24 campaign starts with the visit of Wigan Athletic to Pride Park Stadium on Saturday 5th August (3pm kick-off).

The first day of training was a mixture of fitness and medical testing, alongside training drills, as the players made their returns following just over seven weeks of rest and recovery after a gruelling 2022/23 campaign.

A full week of training awaits next week and, following their opening pre-season friendly at Matlock Town on Saturday 8th July (3pm kick-off), the squad will head out to Spain for a week-long training camp.

Once the squad return home in mid-July, they will really begin to step up preparations for the new season.

In addition to the returning players checking in at Moor Farm Training Ground, new signings Joe Ward, Josh Vickers, Callum Elder and Curtis Nelson took in their first days as Rams players.

Midfielder Jason Knight was afforded more time off after spending a period of this month with the Republic of Ireland squad on international duty, while winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is with the Guatemala squad competing in the Gold Cup.
