Club History

Founded just 47 years ago in 1976, Stevenage are one of the ‘newest’ teams in Sky Bet League One.

They were known as Stevenage Borough until 2010 when they dropped the ‘Borough’ from their name and became Stevenage Football Club.

A rapid rise through the divisions in their short history saw them enter the English Football League for the first time in in 2010.

They historically then made it back-to-back promotions when they were promoted to the third tier via the League Two play-offs in 2010/11.

After a successful first year in Sky Bet League One, The Boro were relegated back to the fourth tier in 2013/14 and that is where they have remained until their promotion in 2022/23.

They have competed in the FA Trophy Final four times in their short history and have lifted it twice, first in 2006/07 and then again in 2008/09.

2022/23 Season

Last season saw Stevenage return to the third tier of English football for just the second time in their history.

They spent near the entirety of the campaign in the top three of Sky Bet League Two and were challenging for the title until the very end.

Stevenage also recorded a memorable victory over Premier League side Aston Villa in the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup last season, scoring two goals in the final two minutes to record a 2-1 victory.

Record Against The Rams

The 2023/24 season will mark the first time Derby and Stevenage have ever gone head-to-head in a competitive fixture.

The two faced off in a friendly game prior to the 2022/23 campaign getting underway, with the home side winning 1-0, but this season will mark the first ever occasion in league or cup action.
