Manager's Thoughts...
Manager Sam Griffiths believes her side should make the journey to Huddersfield in a positive frame of mind.
The Ewes' second half performance in the recent 7-1 hammering of Stourbridge, which is their only league win so far, and the narrow 1-0 loss to Newcastle United last time out has offered Griffiths plenty of encouragment moving forward.
She said: “The players should be confident
and I think we have seen enough in the Newcastle game and the second half at
Stourbridge to provide the belief that we can go on and win matches.
“We
should go into Huddersfield with a lot of confidence and if the girls
keep doing what we’re doing then the results will come.”
From The Dressing Room...
Goalkeeper Anna Draper is confident the side's hard work on the training ground will bring a good run of form in the weeks ahead.
Draper, who impressed in the 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United last weekend and made a fine penalty save in the second half, believes the Ewes can rise to the challenge with some big games on the horizon in the next few weeks.
She said: “If we keep our heads up high and keep working
hard in training, our hard work will definitely pay off.
"We’ve got plenty of big games coming up so hopefully we can get into a good rhythm.”
The Season So Far...
Derby County Women have one win and three defeats to their name in the league so far this term. They started the season with a 2-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, before bowing out of the League Cup at the Determining Round stage with a 4-2 loss on home turf against West Bromwich Albion.
A 3-2 loss at Liverpool Feds was then followed up with a 7-1 hammering of Stourbridge in their last away game a fortnight ago, prior to losing 1-0 to promotion favourites Newcastle United at the Don Amott Arena last weekend.
Huddersfield Town Women, meanwhile, have picked up one win and four defeats from their opening five league games of the season. They started the campaign with a 4-2 home win over AFC Fylde and a 5-2 success against Middlesbrough in the League Cup, but have lost four in a row since then against Stoke City, Halifax, Burnley and West Bromwich Albion.
